It was the aid from the charge in his wings that actually did it. Without that, just his spike alone wouldn't have been enough for someone with Soundwave's energy reservoir. He was not a graceful overloader either, keening and shouting sharply as he hit his peak.
And rolled into a few more while he was there, his valve squeezing and rippling constantly around Jade as he crashed a few times before finally allowing the charge to dissipate.
